Former Miss Australia's face 'blown up by police grenade' during morning raid
Beauty queen Felicia Djamirze claims she has suffered third degree burns and may lose sight in one eye after a flash grenade lobbed into a Queensland home by police exploded in her face.
The 28-year-old former Miss Australia was in bed with her boyfriend and alleged Rebels associate Dean Grant O'Donnell when officers allegedly threw a grenade into their Susan River home as part of a police operation last week.
Ms Djamirze has had two operations and remains in hospital after the incident that also left her with a partially melted hand.
Her lawyer also claims police were "both excessive and negligent" and failed to treat his client's burns properly in the 40 minutes she was forced to wait for an ambulance.
“This was not a siege situation, or a situation where police were chasing an armed fugitive," lawyer Chris Ford said.
"There was no imminent threat and the police had the advantage of surprise.
“The police rode in like cowboys (and) nearly killed my client. There should be a full independent investigation."
Ms Djamirze and Mr O'Donnell have both been charged with drug trafficking, and Mr O'Donnell further charged with 13 drug and weapon offences following the alleged uncovering of 2kg of ice, and a loaded handgun and shotgun.
A police spokeswoman has declined to comment on "operational tactics".
