13-year-old girl tragically drowns at beach while swimming with little brother
A young girl has tragically drowned while trying to help her brother at a beach near Wonthaggi, south-east of Melbourne.
Police said the 13-year-old girl was swimming with her 11-year-old brother at Williamsons beach in Dalyston, just after 8pm.
The boy got into trouble in rough water.
A man, believed to be their father, was able to pull the boy to safety but the girl could not be saved.
The girl tragically died on the beach after police and paramedics tried to save her.
The young boy is currently being treated in hospital for minor injuries.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
