Woman released from custody after alleged shop front rampage

A young woman accused of a frenzied act of vandalism has been released from custody for the second time in less than a month.

The unnamed woman told 7 News she had been drinking and arguing with her partner before she smashed the windows of five businesses overnight.

Using a brick as her weapon, the 19-year-old was caught on CCTV repeatedly throwing bricks at the row of Riverview businesses.

A supermarket, laundromat and charity store were among those vandalised and police also allege she set fire to a dumpster in a nearby alleyway.

All together, the repair bill will run into the tens of thousands of dollars.

One of the store managers, Jen, said the vile act has ‘put her business right down’.

“Absolutely disgusting, there's just no words for it. Why would someone do something like that?” she told 7 News.

Volunteers of the charity store are now faced with the task of raising money to pay for the damage.

“We've got to get in now and clean this up, we could be doing other things,” one volunteer named Rhonda said.

The local woman allegedly responsible said she was ‘angry’.

“Me and my partner got into an argument and I got angry and I walked off,” the woman told 7 News.

“A few hours earlier I had a few glasses of wine but that wore off by then.

“I've got lots of anger I just need to get myself sorted out.

“I really am sorry.”

But police say it's not the first time she's lost her temper.

Only last month the accused allegedly threw rocks through the front doors of the Redbank Police Beat.

She was arrested and taken into custody but later released on watch house bail.

On Tuesday, a magistrate released her again, prompting an angry response from the business owners.

“Why wasn't she locked up?” Jen said.

“Ipswich courts for you.”

The suspect will appear in court next month.
