Leopard filmed on CCTV during school rampage, six people mauled

WARNING, DISTRESSING: A leopard on the loose in a school in India has viciously mauled six people who attempted to contain the animal.

The male cat stalked the grounds of VIBGYOR High, an international school in the city of Bangalore.

It was on the grounds for close for 10 hours on Sunday according to local news.

The eight-year-old leopard was spotted inside the building on chilling CCTV footage.

It can be seen falling out of the building from an upper level on to netting, knocking over a ladder and landing in the complex courtyard.

Officials finally shot the cat with a tranquilizer dart, however before it came into effect the leopard went on a frenzied attack.

The cat dashed around the school’s pool, leaping on to several men who tried to run away.

Conservation scientist Sanjay Gubbi and forest department driver Benny Maurius suffered injuries when they tried to corner the leopard, according to local media.

Mr Gubbi tried to flee by scaling a fence, however he was dragged down and bitten on the arm.

Eventually the tranquilizer kicked in and the cat collapsed to the ground.

It took an hour to confirm the cat was asleep.

A total of six people were injured during the incident, including a TV news cameraman.

Each person was treated for minor injuries.

The cat was transported to a national park.

Leopards and other big cats are known to stray into populated areas in the Kundalahalli region and elsewhere in India, according to the BBC.

In January a lion had to be rescued from waters off the coast of Jafrabad, after fisherman alerted rangers.

In 2015, a male leopard was trapped for five hours after its head became stuck in a metal pot in Rajasthan.
