'Sydney's worst driver' takes a nap on the couch instead of attending court, maintains he is a 'good driver'

The man dubbed ‘Sydney’s worst driver’ is in trouble again.

Nathaniel Barker was issued the longest driving ban in New South Wales history.

The 77-year-old was first banned from being on the road in the 1970s.

He’s since been banned until 2092, but that hasn’t stopped him.

Barker has been caught driving unlicensed 29 times, most recently last September when he was photographed driving in his ute in Sydney’s east.

On Thursday he was due to face court for his latest driving while disqualified charge, but he did not show up.

Instead he chose to lay on his couch at his South Coogee apartment.

This sparked the Magistrate to issue a warrant for his arrest.

"Yesterday I was supposed to appear at the Downing centre, on a charge of drive while disqualified,” he said.

“In doing so I've been represented by a Mr Chase Hope, who attends on my behalf, until I'm needed”

Despite this Barker claims he’s a good driver, even though he admitted to being behind the wheel several times while his licence was first suspended 39 years ago.

"I accept it all, I've been to jail over it, 12 months, periotic detention, done five months for nothing, got no compensation,” he said.

He’s refused to take responsibility and claims police were ‘picking on him’.

“They follow me around, harassing, they smashed into that truck and another truck,” he said.

"Now, I'm the only bloke that's been declared an habitual traffic offender and I haven't had an accident”.

Barker will next face court again in May.
