James Packer and Mariah Carey steal the show at G'Day LA gala

As hundreds of Aussie superstars walked the red carpet at the G'Day LA gala ball in California, it was Mariah Carey's $10 million engagement ring that really stole the show.

James Packer and his wife-to-be made a headlining appearance at the annual ball, which celebrates the success of Australians in the US entertainment industry.

The pair graced the red carpet together but didn’t talk about setting any dates for their wedding.

The paparazzi on the other hand, were focused on nothing but the huge rock sitting on her finger, yelling at her to 'show us the ring!'.

Singer Seal, who is dating Packer's ex-wife, arrive solo and opened the show.

Aussie band 5 Seconds of Summer were one man down, after singer Calum Hood had a mishap before leaving for the airport.

“He lost his passport,” guitarist Luke Hemmings told 7 News.

"Yeah, that’s actually what happened.”

Australian acting legend Hugh Jackman said normally the beverages at awards parties involve diet soft drinks.

“There’s usually more, like, diet coke than beer at the parties” he told 7 News.

“But not here!”

Writer, actor and director Joel Edgerton was honoured with an Excellence in Film award and said he loved seeing fellow Australians succeed in tinsel town.

“Any given day you could take a drive down Sunset Boulevard and see a handful of Australians on billboards .. and you know, I love that,” he said while walking the red carpet.

Mad Max Director George Miller was handed a Lifetime Achievement Award, adding to 10 Oscar nominations.

“There’s a lot of humour … there's a kind of larrikin humor to the Australians,” Miller said of his fellow Aussies during his acceptance speech.

Guests were served menus inspired by the land down under, including lamb on the barbie and Australian wine.
