Mum allegedly coward punched after she refused club entry to intoxicated man

A Queensland mother is recovering in hospital after she was allegedly coward punched by a man who was refused entry into an entertainment precinct.

Melissa Abdoo, 36, was working as a duty manager for the Mount Isa nightspot The Buffs Club.

Ms Abdoo was managing the front door at the club when she refused entry to the man who she believed was intoxicated.

Angered that he was denied entry, the man’s wife confronts Ms Abdoo before he allegedly walked up behind her and threw a punch so forceful it knocked her straight to the ground.

She shocking act comes less than a week after Queensland teen Cole Miller died following a coward punch in Brisbane.

He was coward punched after a night out with friends, his injuries so severe there was no chance of recovery.

Detective Senior Sergeant Alex McBroom told 7 News the man’s forearm punch allegedly hit Ms Abdoo’s jaw and chest.

“I have no hesitation this is a coward’s punch, a terrible act,” Snr Sgt McBroom said.

Ms Abdoo was been a manager of the club for more than a year.

Her workmates were shocked by the incident.

She was taken to Mt Isa hospital in a serious condition, her injuries were so severe she was flown to Townsville for further treatment.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with Grevious Bodily Harm.

Police are looking for others who may be able to help with their investigation.

On Monday a gathering will take place in King George Square, Brisbane to remember all victims of one punch attacks.
