Man sacked by Meriton Group after calling Clementine Ford 'a s***' online

A man has been sacked from his job after he used social media to sexually harass high-profile columnist Clementine Ford.

Ms Ford took to Facebook to share posts made by the Sydney hotel supervisor Michael Nolan, where he had called her a s*** after she had spoken out against misogyny.

Ms Ford, a feminist commentator, asked Mr Nolan’s employer the Meriton Group whether they were aware of his actions.

Meriton have since confirmed Mr Nolan, 22, was fired on Monday following an investigation into his online behaviour.

Mr Nolan since shared his thoughts about the sacking and public humiliation on Facebook saying ‘I don’t give a damn’.

Ms Ford, who has more than 80,000 followers on Facebook alone, is known for naming and shaming her harassers.

“These men don’t get to just go around leaving these kind of comments and attempts to degrade women just for the hell of it,” Ms Ford wrote.

“There are basically no consequences for men who behave like this, so we have to start making consequences for them.”

Ms Ford since defended her response and the repercussions that followed for Mr Nolan.
“To anyone who suggests I have caused a man to lose his job, I’d like to say this: No. He is responsible for his actions. He is responsible for the things he writes and the attitudes her holds,” Ms Ford wrote.

“If you enjoy exercising misogyny online, you only have yourself to blame if the people with power over your life – your bosses, friends, family etc – decided they don’t want to be associated with you anymore.”
