Fire guts small factory in Sydney's south-west

Fire has destroyed a factory in Sydney’s south west, as bystanders filmed flames and smoke billowing from the building.

Firefighters were called to the industrial complex on Botany Rd about 12.15 Monday.

The fire is believed to have started in the building’s upper levels and the roof collapsed quickly.

A series of small blasts were heard before flames started to explode from the roof.

At least one crew member was inside the building at the time it was declared unsafe, searching for anyone who might have been trapped inside.

Firefighters quickly fled the building before the fire took over.

They worked hard to stop it from spreading to other buildings.

The building was believed to be full of timber products.

The fire caused major traffic issues; Botany Rd was closed between Edgehill Avenue and Sir Joseph Banks Street.

Drivers were advised to avoid the area.
