Wild weather causes collapsed roof in maternity ward
Dramatic scenes this afternoon as 12 adults and five babies have successfully been evacuated from a collapsed maternity ward of Lismore Base Hospital.
Wild storms lashed the region causing scaffolding to collapse onto the roof of the hospital.
Crews are now clearing debris and accessing patients.
All persons are accounted for with minor injuries.
The very dangerous thunderstorms are currently near Byron Bay. They are likely to contain destructive winds, very large hail and heavy rain and are heading north.
Severe storms have caused damage in Lismore this afternoon incl. hospital. Crews from Woodburn, Ballina helping local crews.

Significant damage has occurred in Lismore after a Supercell with destructive winds and tennis ball size hail has directly hit the town.
