Risky selfie: Brothers pose with bald eagle they save from trap

Following the dramatic rescue of a bald eagle from a hunting trap, two Canadian brothers took the time to pose for an incredibly rare and risky selfie.

Michael Fletcher, 29, was hunting with his brother Neil when they noticed the majestic bird flailing in a hunting trap yearning to break free.

Swinging immediately into action the brothers knew they had to do something to help the endangered bird, however they conceded it was never going to be any easy task.

Bald eagles are well known for having razor-sharp clasping talons with equally destructive gripping beaks.

"When we got close to the bird, it tried to fly away. So I took my hoodie off and put it around its head, it calmed it right down," Fletcher told NBC News.

After that, "it took a while to open the trap," he added.

Once the brothers were able to free the large bird of prey from the trap they decided to take the rare selfie with the stately creature before setting it free.

Fletcher said he doesn't believe the bird was injured, but the eagle flew low and wobbled for a moment before ascending gracefully into the distance.

The brothers were able to capture the amazing event on their camera phones and uploaded the video to Facebook.
