Clive Palmer property battle continues

There are reports Clive Palmer is facing a cashflow crisis as he continues to battle his Chinese business partners for outstanding royalties. Max Futcher reports.

Queensland woman Maree Frecklington has vowed she will continue to hold her ground in a property rights war with self-proclaimed billionaire Clive Palmer.

Ms Frecklington remains in a villa that has lost basic amenities, including electricity and water, as the dispute between part-time villa owners and Mr Palmer continues.

The argument revolves around litigation over the rights of quarter-share owners to access properties reportedly made difficult under Mr Palmer and newly interpreted ownership structure.

“Any owner seeking any access to any villa will be guilty of trespass and appropriate action will be taken,” Mr Palmer’s besieged resort manager Simon Stodart reportedly wrote in a November 6 letter.

Ms Frecklington is not desperate for accommodation. She can stay at a number of luxury properties in Queensland and Sydney Harbour, but has said she is fighting on principle.

“I have paid all my bills,” she told The Australian. “There is not a cent owing. I’m entitled to stay here and I won’t be told by him that I cannot.

“I bought in here in 2004 as a lifestyle choice. I’ve stayed here many times, very happily, with family before Clive Palmer came. I’m not going to change now.”
