Huge blaze trails towards WA woman trapped in car after crash

This is the terrifying moment a woman was forced to watch a trail of fire coming towards her car after petrol ignited the blaze following a WA crash.

The 37-year-old was on the South Western Highway near Waterloo petrol station trying to turn right when her car was hit in the back by a 4-WD.

CCTV from the petrol station captured the moment the woman's Holden Commodore was hit at high speed and sent spinning down the road.

Seconds pass and a petrol on the road ignites a huge blaze sending massive flames towards the woman trapped in the car.

South West traffic police acting officer-in-charge Sgt Allan Glover said the crash occurred about 6am.

He said the woman was driving a Holden Commodore station wagon towards Bunbury when she stopped to enter the petrol station.

Quick-thinking bystanders are seen on the footage running to the petrol station to grab fire extinguishers so they can help the woman.

Emergency services cut the woman free after the ordeal and she was airlifted to the Royal Perth Hospital complaining of neck and back pain.

Traffic was diverted from South Western Highway, but was cleared by about 8.30am on Tuesday.

Sgt Glover said a number of witnesses left the scene of the crash before police arrived and asked for them to contact police with any information.
