Inside the glamorous life of western Sydney's dodgy travel agent couple
FIRST ON 7: The founders of a collapsed western Sydney travel agency that ripped off thousands of customers enjoyed a lavish lifestyle of parties and functions, a 7News investigation reveals.
Value World Travel Founders Neni Tiwary and partner Gargi are one of Sydney's most glamorous Indian couples.
For his 33rd birthday in 2006, Neni was treated to the performances of a swathe of male and female dancers, and an Elvis impersonator to boot, in a lavish party in Parramatta.
"They are indeed quite glamorous, the way they dress they way they talk,” Subba Rao Varigonda from the United Indian Association said.
Last week, Value World Travel collapsed after the the company collapsed leaving thousands of travellers out of pocket.
Victims paid upfront for airfares totalling millions.
"It's really upsetting, I never could dream that this could happen in Australia,” victim Jose George said.
In January, ASIC banned the pair from managing any company after the collapse of two other businesses.
They were found to have "failed to exercise their duties as directors and… take reasonable steps to control the companies financial affairs."
Neni and Gargi are no longer listed as directors of Value World Travel on company documents.
However, Neni has remained close to the company he founded.
Neni represents Value World Travel at functions such as Miss India Australia and in recent business emails obtained by 7News.
Fair Trading and the liquidator have been attempting to speak with the couple.
7News visited a house connected with them, but those inside would not answer the door.
