Newborn mix up at private hospital in Sydney

A woman who gave birth at a private hospital in Sydney was handed the wrong newborn in a terrible baby mix up.

The woman was in the maternity unit at North Shore Private Hospital, when staff brought her a baby that they thought was hers.

However it soon became apparent that they had made a mistake and given her the wrong newborn.

There were initial concerns that the baby may have been breastfed and therefore would have to undergo testing, but the hospital denied this.

A statement released by the hospital confirmed there was a mix-up a few months ago.

“North Shore Private quickly resolved the situation in accordance with its policies and procedures,” the statement added.

The Nurses Association has come out in defence of the hospital, saying it was a case of human error and something that rarely occurs.
