New Spacer app turns your space space into cash

Have you got a spare cupboard - even part of your driveway - you're not using?

As of tomorrow you can make money by renting them out.

Sydney Startup ‘Spacer’ says there’s no space ‘too large’ or ‘too small’ to share.

For empty nesters it might be a new way to make some extra money.

After testing the market in Sydney the startup will launch nationwide on Tuesday and only verified users can sign up.

"We're solving the problem of people needing more space,” Mike Rosenbaum told 7 News.

"We're providing a 5000 dollar goods and property guarantee for both the host and the renter for their peace of mind."

The hosts offer storage on a monthly basis. The average storage period is two and a half years.

Over a year a garage could earn $4000, a driveway $3000, a bedroom around the same, a backyard for boat or caravan also $3000 and $1800 for a shed.

"It would certainly pay some of the bills from the European holiday the way the Euro was,” Peter Winney, who had some space to share, said.

Karen Scott was looking to store baby items.

"Cause we're in between houses at the moment and we don't know necessarily when we're going to need it again, it's so much easier this way."

Business owner Fabio Grassia has several floors that will now become storage lockers.

"Two offices taken up already and it's only been on the market for a few days so that's good."
