Severe thunder storms and hail lash Sydney

Power has been restored to 10,000 homes and businesses in suburbs in southern Sydney including Engadine, Heathcote, Woronora Hts, Waterfall after an electrical storm.

Severe thunderstorms and damaging winds lashed Sydney and northern NSW on Monday afternoon.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours in parts of the Northern Rivers district.

Other locations expected to be affected include Grafton, Yamba, Maclean, Ulmarra, Brooms Head and Wooli.

Storm warnings for the Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands and Southern Tablelands districts have been cancelled.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should move cars away from trees, keep clear of power lines and unplug computers and appliances.

People are also warned to stay indoors and away from windows and keep children and pets indoors as well.

The next warning is due to be issued by 6:40 pm.
