Jilted lover suffers burns after revenge attack goes badly wrong

A woman who poured acid over her former lover while she sat behind him on a motorbike was left with horrific burns after the liquid blew backwards onto her face.

Ung Limey, 21, emptied the toxic contents of the container over her boyfriend Leng Socheata’s helmet but she was covered in most of it as the wind blew it straight onto her.

Leng, who had recently broke up with his girlfriend, crashed the bike seconds after the attack, which caused the former couple to suffer more injuries as a result.

While Limey fled before police could arrive, Leng, 23, was rushed to hospital in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where he was treated for burns.

It is believed that Limey was treated for her own injuries at a private hospital.

Police spokesman Mok Borunchhorsak said that Leng’s family believed the motive behind the attack was revenge for the couple’s split.

“We are currently looking to find the young woman who allegedly doused her former boyfriend with acid as she rode behind him on a motorbike," he said.

"His family said it was an act of revenge after they had persuaded him to break off the relationship.

“We have visited all of the state hospitals and there was no sign of her, and we suspect that means that she has been treated in a private hospital.”

Police confirmed that Limey had previously been arrested on drug charges, and a warrant had been put out for her arrest.

The injured boy’s uncle, Sok Sorin, said that the family had managed to persuade him to stop seeing her after finding out that she had been arrested for jewellery theft and drug-related offences.

“They separated for several days, but on Tuesday, the criminal came back to my nephew and they took a motorbike ride," he said.

“She took the bottle of acid and poured it over his head, seriously injuring him.”
