Appeal to help save Sophia's leg
Sophia Jans is just 14-months-old but her parents are hoping to get her to the US for pioneering surgery.
The little girl, from Woolongong, was born with a rare leg deformity called Fibula Hemimelia and needs reconstructive surgery on her right leg.
She was born without a fibula and has a short tibula and the US is the only place that can help her with pioneering surgery.
Sophia’s parents Carley and Chris will do all they can to give their daughter the best chance to walk on her own two feet.
But they need to raise $250,000 and might even have to sell their home to reach the target.
Sophia has just started to crawl but walking will not be possible without the surgery.
Carley and Chris have booked Sophia in for pioneering surgery in Florida with Dr Dror Paley.
As well as lengthening Sophia's leg, Dr Paley will also fix her deformed ankle, which can't be done in Australia.
Sophia's treatment in January but it's a sum of money the nurse and firefighter don't have.
Chris said: “It’s very hard to eat humble pie and ask for help.
“At the end of the day we don’t mind losing everything as long as we can make sure Sophia has a successful operation.”
Carley was told she would never have children again, after losing twin boys several years ago.
Sophia is the couple's 'miracle child' and they are determined to save her leg.
So far the family have raised more than $100, 000.
