Mother abandons baby in gutter
A Queensland woman will soon face court accused of dumping her baby in a gutter in Brisbane and taking off.
The 14-month-old girl was found alone inside a pram by children on Sittella St in Inala on Thursday morning.
Witnesses told police the mother of the child allegedly offloaded the child out of the pram before abandoning her in the gutter.
Police believe she was alone for about an hour before passers-by alerted authorities.
"She was quite dirty…she was OK when I gave her a little bit of water," neighbour Amy Whiteman told 7 News Queensland.
"She just wanted to hold me and snuggle."
Police found the 41-year-old woman’s identification in a discarded handbag and later took her into custody.
Paramedics took the baby to Lady Cilento to be checked and she is in the temporary custody of DOCs.
The baby’s mother will face the Richlands Magistrate Court next month.
