Bad ATM robbery caught on camera

A bit more forward planning wouldn’t have gone astray for a group of thieves responsible for a messy ATM robbery.

The thieves were anything but smooth when they stole the ATM from a pharmacy in San Diego, California, early on Monday morning.

Video surveillance uploaded to LiveLeak shows the group of at least five thieves arrive in a white ute shortly after 3am.

The thieves smash in a glass pane on the front door and crawl through into the pharmacy to tie a tow cable, which is connected to the ute, to the ATM.

However, when the vehicle takes off it becomes clear that the criminals don’t have quite the pulling power they thought they did.

Instead of dragging the ATM out through the doors the tow cable wreaks havoc in the store, sending shopping trolleys flying across the floor.

The thieves were forced to run back into the store and make adjustments, before they finally dragged the ATM out of the store. They didn’t take any drugs or other cash from the premises.

The group then struggled to pick the ATM up and put it in the ute, before finally making their escape.

When police recovered the broken ATM later that day, there was no money inside. They are still searching for the thieves.

While the thieves weren't as quick or smooth as they had hoped to be, other thieves have had a lot less luck.
