Puppies to help veterans living with PTSD

A puppy is set to carry on the legacy of a fallen father, helping veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Katherine’s dad Michael Kester served in Iraq.

He tragically suffered a fatal brain seizure earlier this year.

But the loveable puppy is set to carry on his name by being specially trained to help those struggling with PTSD.

The 14-week old Blue Heeler, named Sergeant Kester, will be a much needed gift to someone with PTSD once the helping hands at Whiskey’s Wish are done with training him.

The group’s founder Scott Jackman was the real Sergeant Kester’s best friend.

They hope to give people living with PTSD a reason to get out of bed each day.

The dogs help with every day tasks and can even help detect signs of anxiety attacks.

"My dad didn't get the help he needed for a lot of his life but maybe someone else's dad can,” Katherine told Seven News.
