Man goes berserk at Sydney station

Shocking video that shows how things can get out of hand very quickly in Sydney's train stations has been given exclusively to 7 News.

The footage comes as night security guards at 11 of Sydney's busiest stations are being withdrawn. The decision has left rail staff and tens of thousands of passengers very worried.

In the video, a man is seen going berserk in Central Station at 8.40pm on a Sunday night.

Security guards and police are nowhere to be seen. It's a commuter who subdues the man, but not for long.
The man smashes a sign, a computer, and a television and then randomly assaults everyone in his path. Other passengers come to the rescue.

Eventually two police officers rush in and the man is subdued with a taser and capsicum spray.
Seven News obtained these exclusive pictures as Sydney Trains revealed it would remove night security guards from eleven stations.

They include Hornsby, Redfern and Hurstville, Ashfield and Cabramatta and Blacktown and Macarthur.
Train bosses say the guards are unnecessary and police can handle security.

Sydney Trains’ Howard Collins says the review the move was warranted.
"This review last March was looking at value for money but also taking into account we now have 610 full time police officers out there."

On Friday, Seven News revealed pictures of another sickening attack at Redfern.

Sydney Trains points out that their guards were only ever there to protect property and were never actually trained to intervene in violent offences.
