Brazilian men take revenge on motorist who crashed into their colleagues

A group of angry council workers in Brazil have rolled a motorist’s car into a canal, after he ran down two of their co-workers.

The two council workers were pruning trees along a busy road in Porto Alegre on Wednesday morning when they were hit by the alleged drunk driver, Globo reports.

Video shows angry men in high-visibility overalls pushing a yellow Fiat Uno over an embankment and into a shallow canal.

Police officers who can be seen watching on, were reportedly powerless to stop the violent outburst.

Off-camera, the council workers also attacked the driver, who allegedly would have been killed if the police had not intervened.

"When I arrived the driver had already hit the street sweepers and was out of the car. They [street sweepers] were up to try to catch him, but the police put him in the car and took her away, but they were going to lynch him," a witness told Globo.

In the video, the crowd can be seen hurling abuse at the motorist as he is driven away in the back of the police car.

The two cleaners who were hit by the car were taken to hospital. One of the cleaners suffered multiple traumas and is in a serious condition.

Police later recovered the Fiat from the canal and seized it as part of an investigation.
