Man inundated with selfies of monk after losing iPod in Laos

A traveller who lost his iPod in Laos has been given an incredible glimpse into the life of the young monk who found his device.

Scott Herder has received more than 350 photos from the man he has dubbed “the monk that lives in my phone” since he lost his iPod Touch commuting between cities.

The snap happy monk has used the camera on the iPod Touch to take a host of selfies as well as photographs of tourist attractions and friends, which have all been uploaded to Scott’s iCloud account.

"It seems as though he wants us to remember Laos through his eyes for the rest of our lives by sending us pictures," Scott wrote on his blog.

The photographer and English teacher from California said that when he first stumbled upon a photo of the monk he and his travel partner Megan wrote it off as a strange incident.

It wasn’t until he noticed another photo a few weeks later that he realised something weird was going on.

"It was clear something was up because having a picture on your iPhone of a shirtless monk laying down in what looks like a locker room is definitely something you would remember taking," Scott wrote.

“Or that time when you somehow got a bunch of monks to pose for you."

It was only when the pair got good Internet access and found over 100 new photos, that Scott remembered he had left his iPod behind on a table when he was travelling between two cities the month before.

“Most of the time when you lose something, it sucks,” he wrote on his blog.

“You're furious at the world and want to kick some teeth in. However, it appeared something amazing was happening.”

“It was like I was seeing a whole new world,” Scott said. “I was getting a rare glimpse into this monk's life and it became fun to see where this guy was going.”

Scott who has now settled in South Korea to teach English, wishes the monk using his iPod nothing but happiness.

“I genuinely don’t need it and want him to be able to keep documenting his travels!”

“Here’s to the monk in my phone and his awesome journeys. Travel safe my friend!”

While Scott hasn’t tried to make contact with the monk, he thinks it would be amazing to meet him one day and hear about all his adventures.
