Man tied down on flight after 'punching female attendant'

A man was tied down on an Emirates flight after he allegedly assaulted a flight attendant on a trip from Dubai to Melbourne overnight.

Melbourne passenger, Matt Naylor, helped subdue the furious man and told 3AW that "he was very agitated, very worked up, crying, yelling - quite unpleasant".

The enraged man, who appeared to be deaf, allegedly chased after the stewardess and punched her in the face several times after she had told him he couldn't have several seats to himself.

The incident happened on flight EK404 from Dubai Thursday night when Naylor helped said several male flight attendants and another passenger tie the man up to a seat, saying he the subdued man would of had "the strength of 10 men."

Naylor said the incident was "very well-handled by the [Emirates] crew."

But the worst was yet to come when the infuriated man had a young child with him and spent the next five or six hours screaming and headbutting the seat.

Australian Federal Police officers met the plane once it had landed to assess the man, they then came to the agreement of allowing him to take his connecting flight to Auckland after he also struggling to communicate.
