Fraud investigation rocks Serbian lottery
Police are investigating a lottery draw in Serbia which saw a winning number appear on screen before the ball was drawn.
The Belgrade Higher Public Prosecutor's Office issued a warrant to police to investigate the Serbian State Lottery's live TV broadcast on Tuesday, reports Tanjug News Agency.
Viewers were left angry and confused after the fourth number in the draw, 27, was displayed on the screen as a 21.
The ball number 21 was then mysteriously drawn from the lottery machine.
The presenter appeared uncomfortable for the rest of the show, at one stage even pulling a confused look to her colleagues behind the camera.
As the broadcast continued graphics displaying the numbers were also repeatedly turned on and off by someone behind the scenes.
Republic Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac told Tanjug: "The prosecution wants information and facts about the potential criminal responsibility and irregularities during the draw of the State Lottery of Serbia late on Tuesday.
"When it comes to the State Lottery of Serbia, we are fully aware that this case caused widespread alarm among citizens, which is why we will deliver timely information to the public about the results of the investigation."
The State Lottery of Serbia (DLS) reportedly said that human error caused the mistake.
Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic added that 'if there were any elements of a criminal act in the draw of numbers in the lottery late on Tuesday, all responsible individuals will suffer the consequences for this'.
