Cameron Smith not given right of reply to Alex McKinnon's claims

Melbourne Storm Skipper and Queensland Origin Captain Cameron Smith is reportedly furious he wasn’t given a right of reply before the interview with Alex McKinnon aired.

The media outlet who conducted the interview with the former Newcastle Knights player has since confirmed to Fairfax that they did not offer Smith a chance to defend himself.

In the interview with Liz Hayes, McKinnon watched for the first time footage of the 2014 incident which left him paralysed following a lifting tackle from Melbourne Storm player Jordan McLean.

McKinnon slammed Smith’s behavior following the tackle, calling it ‘f***ing ridiculous’.

"You see someone with two, four, six, eight, nine people around them and you want to debate about a f---ng penalty?" McKinnon said angrily as he watched Smith continue to ask the referee whether or not the tackle was worthy of a penalty while he was laying injured on the ground for several minutes.

"Is he still debating? Is he f---ing serious? Wouldn't you just shut up? It's f---ing ridiculous."

McKinnon said since the incident Jordan McLean had reached out to him.

"He sent me a message maybe two months after the accident. I'm not angry. At the start I probably was. I know he'd be sorry."

But he said Smith had not been in contact.

"Nup. I don't know whether he's tried, but I'm sure if Jordan McLean could make contact he could."

The media outlet said Smith wasn’t approached to share his side of the story because the report was about Alex McKinnon.

Fairfax reported Smith was deeply upset that he was not allowed to defend himself.

It’s believed he has been offered the chance to respond on the same program this weekend however Fairfax reported he was likely to turn it down.
