Rough justice: When thieves get foiled

Sometimes crime not only doesn't pay, it also hurts you.

Two unknown men learned this when they walked into a Melbourne milk bar armed with a handgun. They were chased out by a baseball bat wielding shop attendant.

The men used the gun to threaten shopkeepers at two separate milk bars on the morning of June 11, police said.

CCTV footage of the two armed men police say are responsible for milk bar heists.

The shop attendant at the first milk bar in Reservoir foiled their bid.

But the bandits made off with cash and cigarettes 20 minutes later after storming into another store nearby.

Detective Sen Constable Michael Howard says police hope to stop the men from putting anyone else in danger.

"It's something that we don't want to escalate, we don't want any repeat offences," Det Sen Constable Howard said.

The men wore hoods, gloves and balaclavas.

Police say they were supported by at least one getaway driver on the first robbery attempt.

This is not the first time bold and brazen thieves have received some rough justice.

Criminals are great, especially the impulsive ones. This Western Australian crook might have had better luck if he'd scouted the exact location of the doors before he stole a woman's bag and crashed full-steam into a glass pane.
