The real story behind that 'indecent' proposal photo

The image was titled 'Any girl's worst nightmare', but in reality the bride wanted her sister to get engaged while their family were gathered together.

The real story behind a viral photo of a marriage proposal that occurred during a wedding reception has been revealed.

The image has had over 1.5 million views on Reddit, with many people upset that the spotlight was stolen from the bride and groom.

But it's now come to light that the bride was the one behind the special moment, and the unsuspecting woman pictured is actually her sister.

“My fiancé told her he didn't want to ruin their day and she insisted it would only make it better!” Megan told the New York Daily News.

“The groom of the wedding actually held my engagement ring the entire trip! Everyone in the Reddit picture knew the proposal was going to happen except for me!”

Megan's story is a far cry from initial impressions of the scenario, which sparked a social media storm.

'Her smiles says "congratulations", her eyes say "that b**ch",' one redditor wrote.

Others felt bad for the girl who was proposed to.

'Honestly I feel kinda bad for the girl being proposed to more than the bride, she's being proposed to at someone else's big day, he hasn't made it personal for her at all but I guess she seems ok with it,' another wrote.

I guess the moral of this story is not to judge until you know all the facts.
