Top Fifa officials have been arrested on corruption charges after an early morning police raid in Zurich, according to reports.

More than 12 plain clothed police officers entered the ritzy Baur au Lac hotel , the venue for this year’s Fifa meeting, this morning, The New York Times reports.


The charges are reportedly to do with an almost five year long investigation by the FBI and US tax authorities.

Media are currently reporting that as many as 10 officials from the global football governing body may be indicted.

The officials are in Zurich for the Fifa Congress where incumbent president Sepp Blatter faces a challenge from Jordan's Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein in a presidential election on Friday.
