Canadian police search for Australian teen missing during ski trip

Canadian police are searching for an Australian teen who went missing more than a week ago while on a ski trip at Whistler.

Jake Kermond, 19, who hails from Harrietville, Victoria, was last seen in the lobby of his hotel by front desk staff on April 26.

He was due to check out on April 28.

On April 30, hotel staff discovered Mr Kermond's belongings in his room including his ski boots. They reported him missing after the discovery.

Canadian Police Sergeant Steve LeClair told CBC news his parents in Australia had not heard from their son and officers had commenced an extensive investigation.

"It looks like his belongings had been left there. His ski boots are there, his skis are not there ... We suspect that he was short of funds," Sgt LeClair said.

"One of the suspicions was that maybe he was attempting to sell his skis. But we don't suspect any foul play at this point."

Investigators have been able to find Mr Kermond's ski pass and were confident he had left the mountain he was on before he went missing.

At this stage police have refused to release the name of the hotel where Mr Kermond was staying.

Kermond was last seen wearing a green baggy ski jacket, a black-and-white baseball cap and possibly black pants.

Mr Kermond’s friends have taken to Facebook to appeal for information.

Overnight Issac Yagmore posted the following along with a photo of his friend:

“Jake is one of my good mates from Australia. Just thought I’d share this here so people can keep their eyes out for him around whis (sic)."
