A Brisbane woman has taken to social media after she found a sink plug in her salad at Hog’s Breath Café in Aspley.

She also complained that staff laughed when she told them what she had found.

The customer posted a picture of her meal on the restaurants Facebook page, where it received more than 2, 000 likes.

Hog’s Breath Café Australian general manager Ross Worth told the Brisbane Times the company had apologised to the woman for the incident.

He explained the plug had come loose from a sink that was used to wash fresh food such as lettuces and tomatoes.

"On that day the staff members have pulled fresh produce out of the bath and accidentally pulled the plug with it," Mr Worth told the Brisbane Times.

Mr Worth said the restaurant had reported the incident to local health authorities and that plugs would now be chained to sinks.

But he didn't say whether or not staff had laughed at the woman's complaint.

"I can't comment if they were laughing - I would guess not," Mr Worth said.

"It's not a laughing matter, and I'd like to think they wouldn't laugh."

The woman has since removed the post on Facebook.
