Abuse survivor, 8, writes inspiring open letter

An eight-year-old girl has penned a heartwarming letter to the social workers and detectives who helped her escape an abusive home.

Marie Surprenant was abused so badly when she was an infant that she lost the use of her legs and had to have rods inserted into her back, Metro reported.

“When I was little I got hurt and I wasn’t going to walk at all. I couldn’t walk because my spinal cord was broken and couldn’t be fixed,” she explained in her letter.

She said the “bad guy” lied and told the doctors she had fallen out of bed. Her injuries mean she has to have surgery twice a year.

In the letter, she tells all child care workers to “keep making the world a better place” and “keep making kids feel protected.”

She thanks them for giving her a warm and safe environment.

“I think that if you never helped me, my life would still be awful and lonely,” she wrote.

The only thing that bothers Marie now is the loud snoring of her pet dog Jo.

Marie’s adoptive mother Michele said the thank you letter was all Marie’s original work.

“She’s a happy kid,” she said.

After her harrowing experience dealing with the effects of her back injuries, Marie wants to be an orthopedic surgeon when she grows up.

Michele said: “Every time she sees her orthopedic surgeon, she’s asking him career planning questions.”
