A man has admitted lacing a smoothie with abortion pills to make his ex-girlfriend lose their child.

The 26-year-old from Norway says he felt it was ‘the only way out’ after buying the pills off the internet twice after his first attempt failed.

The man, who already has one child with the woman, pleaded guilty both to inflicting serious bodily harm and also to terminating a pregnancy without the mother's consent, reports The Local.

The prosecutor reportedly told the court it was a unique case in Norwegian history.

The man told the court: "I had a bad conscience and felt remorse, but thought that it was the only way out,” the man told the court, reports NRK, Norway’s state broadcaster.

The court heard the couple already had a child together and was not happy when she became pregnant a second time after they had casual sex.

The 20-year-old woman, who was not named, said: "He tried several times to convince me to have an abortion but it was not an option for me.”

The Local reports that after the woman drank the smoothie she begun suffering from severe abdominal pain before miscarrying the baby.

But after getting suspicious she went to her GP for tests and it was revealed she had a high dose of abortion medicine in her system, which induced the miscarriage.
The man admitted trying the same tactic earlier on in the pregnancy but it had failed.

He said he had read online that the pills could cause deformities if they did not work.

The man bought a second pack of pills from a different online retailer and that was when his second attempt was successful.

He told the court: "I felt like a total s***bag when it dawned on me what I had done," he told the court.

The court is expected to rule on the case next week.
