Missouri mass shooting: Nine dead after gunman enters four homes in Tyrone and shoots residents, before killing himself

Nine people are dead following a mass shooting in the US state of Missouri.

The gunman went door to door in the small community of Tyrone, entering at least four residences.

Seven people were shot dead, and the gunman later killed himself in a parked car near one of the crime scenes.

Police say an elderly woman also died of natural causes as a result of the incident.

State Highway Patrol Sergeant Jeff Kinder found it hard to keep track of the victims.

"Isn't that terrible. [You] lose count. But nope there's actually nine total victims in this case one of them being the shooter," he said.

Authorities are treating at least one gunshot victim who survived.

Police are not providing any motive for the shooting nor any explanation of the relationship between the shooter and his victims.
