'Afroman' punches female fan in the face
One-hit-wonder 'Afroman' has been arrested after punching a female fan who gatecrashed his performance.
The rapper, best known for his 2001 hit 'Because I got High', was performing a set in Mississippi when a young woman somehow made her way onto the stage and started dancing next to him.
Without warning, the artist whirled around and slugged her on the head, knocking her to the ground.
She reportedly lay crying and bleeding while Afroman continued his performance, prompting cries of disbelief from the crowd.
Witnesses say the stunned woman somehow managed to scramble to her feet and was led off the stage.
The concert was cut short by police who escorted Afroman off stage.
He was arrested outside the venue and charged with assault.
The shocking incident was caught on another fan's mobile phone.
Afroman's rep said the rapper had no idea whether the stage intruder was a man or a woman, but feared he was under attack.
When he realised someone was on stage, Afroman said he instinctively lashed out.
"This was a completely involuntary reflex reaction to people infringing on his stage space," the rep told US media.
“It was uncharacteristic behavior that was initiated by outside uncontrolled forces.”
Afroman was released on $300 bail.
He has since hit out at the venue, saying it did not have enough security to control overzealous fans.
