Man claims he found maggots in roast chicken

Coles has launched an investigation after a man reported finding his hot chicken riddled with maggots.

Scott Watterson flew into Port Lincoln today for work and stopped by Coles to purchase a roast chicken, but he soon lost his appetite.

“Opened it at lunch time today, pulled my hand out after eating half of it to find maggots on my hand and the chicken was full of maggots,” he said.

He said he felt ill when he realised he had already eaten some of the meat.

He returned to the supermarket to inform the manager and says he was offered money to keep quiet.

“All they could do was offer us a $20 gift voucher,” Mr Watterson said.

Coles says an investigation was launched as soon as it became aware of the issue, but already an inspection of the deli space has found no evidence on contamination.

It also said the Port Lincoln supermarket passed a full technical assessment just last week.
