CoverGirl photo increases pressure on NFL boss

A horror week for the NFL continues as pressure mounts on Commissioner Roger Goodell to resign as head of the NFL.

After the Ray Rice incident where video surfaced of the Baltimore Ravens running back punching his then-fiancee in a casino elevator, Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson was indicted on charges of child abuse.

Whilst the disturbing acts committed by two of the league's star players caused widespread outrage, it was only compounded by the poor manner which the Commissioner approached the Rice issue.

Rice was initially given a paltry two-game suspension by the NFL until the shocking video footage emerged, which led to the league amending its domestic violence policy to suspend Rice indefinitely.

Goodell’s reputation took it's biggest hit when he claimed he nor the NFL had seen the video of Rice attacking his now-wife, which was later reported to have been made available to the league office back in April.

As the public grows tired of the continued mishandling of these cases, negative sentiment towards Goodell is as high as ever.

Social media is abuzz with campaigns to oust Goodell, with the hashtag #GoodellMustGo trending on Twitter, along with this confronting Photoshopped image from CoverGirls’ NFL makeup line to include a black eye along with the “Get Your Game Face On!” slogan.

A women's rights group flew banners above several NFL stadiums calling for Goodell to resign over his mishandling of the domestic violence case.

"Tell the @NFL that @NFLCommish needs to go," the group, UltraViolet, wrote on its Twitter feed. "Time to accept responsibility."

The #GoodellMustGo banners flew over MetLife Stadium before the New York Giants v Arizona Cardinals game, with several similar banners scheduled to fly over other games around the country.
