Bus driver gets high behind the wheel, crashes into house

Shocking pictures have emerged of a bus driver smoking drugs while behind the wheel of a 35-tonne public bus, passing out before crashing into the side of a house.

The security vision shows Shaun Murphy lighting a synthetic cannabis pip while driving.

He continues to drive for 90 minutes, inhaling from his pipe and steering for a time with his elbow.

He then passes out, before smashing through a fence and into the side of a house.

While there was no one on the bus during the crash, which took place in June, police say the driver had previously had a number of people on board.

The Busways employeepleaded guilty at Penrith Court to driving recklessly and driving with illicit substances in his blood.

He also tested positive for morphine and methylamphetamine.

At the time, Busways said the employee had suffered an unknown medical condition. Today the company confirmed the man is no longer employed.

The driver will be sentenced tomorrow in court.
