A light plane has crash landed on a US beach, killing a father who was walking on the sand with his young daughter, who was critically injured.
Neither the pilot nor passenger of the 1972 Piper Cherokee was hurt in the incident, which happened mid-afternoon on Sunday.
The father had been walking along the Gulf Coast beach with his daughter when the plane crash-landed, killing him, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said.
The girl was taken to a children's hospital where she's listed as critical.
A woman who was with the two was treated for a heart attack.
The pilot had advised Venice Airport officials that he was in distress and would try to make a beach landing, saying he wasn't able to make it back to the airfield.
