Cannabis worth $1.8m seized in Sydney

A haul of cannabis worth nearly $2 million has been seized from a fortified complex in Sydney's southwest.

Officers found a highly-organised hydroponic set-up when they forced their way into an industrial unit in Lansvale on Thursday morning, police say.

More than 500 plants were found growing in various stages of maturity, and police said the haul has an estimated potential street value of $1.89 million.

Officers also seized a speedboat worth $70,000 at the scene under proceeds of crime legislation.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Thursday morning, a 50-year-old man was arrested and charged after an extensive hydroponic cannabis set-up was allegedly uncovered at a home in Newcastle.

He will appear in Newcastle Local Court on August 14.
