NPL - Comyn-Platt relishing rivalry round

It will not beat his greatest derby moment but ECU Joondalup defender Charlie Comyn-Platt is looking forward to this Saturday’s clash with Sorrento at ECU Football Stadium.

The fixture is part of the National Premier Leagues WA’s inaugural Rivalry Round, which has matched teams according to historic, cultural and geographical factors.

But however much excitement this match generates Comyn-Platt will understandably point to another rivalry game as having provided his fondest memory.

Although Manchester City has a fierce rivalry with city neighbours United, the tension during matches against other Lancashire clubs can also reach fever pitch, as Comyn-Platt experienced during a spell with Bolton Wanderers.

“My best derby moment in the UK was when I was at Bolton and I made the first team squad for a trip to Maine Road to take on Manchester City in the EPL,” he said.

“It was a great buzz for me as I’ve been a Man City fan since I was a kid. Unfortunately I didn't make the bench but it was a great experience for me."

ECU Joondalup have made an impressive start to the season with a draw and three wins from their three matches. Sorrento won their first two matches before a 5-3 loss to Perth last weekend.

“Games between the two clubs are always a good battle, and we’re not expecting anything different on Saturday,” Comyn-Platt said.

“They are well organised and have an experienced line up, so it will be a tough game. It will be an exciting game to watch.”

Rivalry round, Saturday, 3pm: Perth SC v Bayswater City (Dorrien Gardens); ECU Joondalup v Sorrento (ECU Football Stadium); Inglewood United v Balcatta (Intiga Stadium); Stirling Lions v Floreat Athena (Macedonia Park).
