The twelve days of school

We were warned before school started that it would be an enormous adjustment for Miss Five. She’d be exhausted, emotional and downright difficult. We’ve seen glimpses of it, but for the most part, she’s been like a kid at Christmas.

On the first day of school little love came home to me
With scratches from ankles to knees.

On the second day of school little love came home to me
Minus her school hat
And with scratches from ankles to knees.

On the third day of school little love came home to me
No water bottle
Minus her school hat
And with scratches from ankles to knees.

On the fourth day of school little love came home to me
Everything intact
No water bottle
Minus her school hat
And with scratches from ankles to knees.

On the fifth day of school little love came home to me
Tired as can be
Everything intact
No water bottle
Minus her school hat
And with scratches from ankles to knees.

On the sixth day of school little love came home to me
Dress covered in paint
Tired as can be
Everything intact
No water bottle
Minus her school hat
And with scratches from ankles to knees.

On the seventh day of school little love came home to me
Needing help with homework
Dress covered in paint
Tired as can be
Everything intact
No water bottle
Minus her school hat
And with scratches from ankles to knees.

On the eighth day of school little love came home to me
Party invitations
Needing help with homework
Dress covered in paint
Tired as can be
Everything intact
No water bottle
Minus her school hat
And with scratches from ankles to knees.

On the ninth day of school little love came home to me
Lunchbox hardly opened
Party invitations
Needing help with homework
Dress covered in paint
Tired as can be
Everything intact
No water bottle
Minus her school hat
And with scratches from ankles to knees.

On the tenth day of school little love came home to me
Notes from the teacher
Lunchbox hardly opened
Party invitations
Needing help with homework
Dress covered in paint
Tired and cranky
Everything intact
No water bottle
Minus her school hat
And with scratches from ankles to knees.

On the eleventh day of school little love came home to me
With a new best buddy
Notes from the teacher
Lunchbox hardly opened
Party invitations
Needing help with homework
Dress covered in paint
Tired and cranky
Everything intact
No water bottle
Minus her school hat
And with scratches from ankles to knees.

On the twelfth day of school little love came home to me
Happy as can be
With a new best buddy
Notes from the teacher
Lunchbox hardly opened
Party invitations
Needing help with homework
Dress covered in paint
Tired and cranky
Everything intact
No water bottle
Minus her school hat
And with scratches from ankles to knees.
