Buyers snap up Adelaide apartments

Developers are enjoying a boom in affordable city apartment construction in Adelaide.

Apartments at the old Transport Department building in Walkerville hit the market today and buyers have been quickly snapping them up.

But despite being so close to the CBD, first home buyers of the apartments miss out on the government's high rise incentives, which would have saved them about $30,000 in stamp duty.

The Property Council says about 300 apartments are sold in the city each year, and there are 800 more on the architect's drawing board at the moment.
