The switch has been flicked on Adelaide solar company Unleash Solar with administrators moving in on the business today.
After issuing a public warning yesterday, Consumer Affairs has received 40 complaints about the company.
Unleash Solar is now in voluntary administration with debts of $5 million, and warranties on its products might not be honoured.
Consumer Affairs has seized documents from the company and has defended its decision not to name the company earlier.
“We have to be particularly careful when publicly naming companies that could suffer as a result so we have to go through due process and we did that as quickly as possible,” Consumer Affairs Commissioner Paul White said.
Consumer Affairs has also revealed it is investigating another two solar companies, but won’t say which ones.
The Adelaide 36ers recently dropped Unleash Solar as a sponsor, while the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club also severed ties when the company missed a sponsorship payment deadline.
Adelaide United has a sponsorship deal reportedly worth $250,000.
The club says that yesterday Unleash Solar contacted it to say the deal was still good.
Adelaide United is now considering its position.
