Alleged arsonist ‘fled on Gopher’

A man has allegedly fled on his motorised scooter after setting off a small explosive device on the doorstep of an Adelaide home, police say.

The man rode past a group of units on Sturt Street in Adelaide’s CBD at about 2.30am and allegedly let off the device at the door of one of the apartments.

He also allegedly threatened the victim with a small axe before riding away.

Police say they located the man on his Gopher in Whitmore Square.

The 60-year-old man was arrested and charged with arson and aggravated assault.

He was refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court.
