Teen doused in liquid and set on fire

The family of a 17-year-old boy who was set on fire in Adelaide’s northern suburbs is calling on the perpetrators to turn themselves in.

Luke Coburn was in the garage with a friend at his parent’s Munno Para West home at around 11.30pm yesterday when two men walked in.

The first doused him with a flammable liquid and the second set him alight.

Police believe it was a targeted attack.

Luke's mother told News Limited that she hurried her son into the shower while her husband tried to douse the flames.

"It was horrible ... he was screaming: 'I'm on fire ... I'm going to die'," she said.

The victim suffered serious burns to almost a third of his body, including his arms, hands, face, and neck.

Relatives say he has spent six hours today in surgery.

He is in a stable condition at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

They don’t know what prompted the attack, but they want the offenders to pay the price.

“I just want whoever did this to come forward, it’s just low and pathetic and this is a criminal investigation, and I hope they thrown the book at them,” said the victim’s sister Donna Ray.

Police say they haven’t been able to speak with the victim because of the severity of his injuries.

“Until we speak to the victim, we do not know if he knows the two offenders, he may be able to provide us with a motive for this attack,” said Detective Chief Inspector Tony Crameri.

“We’re seeking support from anybody who may have seen another vehicle or anyone running from the scene.”
