News anchors quit live on air
When a news anchor signs off for the night you don't really expect them to actually sign off forever.
Two US news anchors apparently took the term literally, stunning viewers by announcing their resignation live on air.
The ballsy pair claimed their decision was based on a dispute with management over journalistic practices, but were guarded in terms of the details.
"This will be Tony and my final show together right here on ABC7 ... some recent developments have come to our attention and departing together is the best alternative."
Once off air the claws came out with the duo slamming management in a local newspaper.
"There was a constant disrespecting and belittling of staff," Michaels told the Bangor Daily News. "We both felt there was a lack of knowledge from ownership and upper management in running a newsroom to the extent that I was not allowed to structure and direct them professionally. I couldn't do everything I wanted to as a news director. There was a regular undoing of decisions."
Seemingly disgruntled management were quick to respond with equally-scathing comments.
"They were on their way out, anyway," Mike Palmer, General Manager of the station told AAP, "sometimes people leave their jobs before they're asked to leave."
Ouch!
