Exclusive girl's school parties with bikies
The Gold Coast mayor's daughter, along with a group of fellow students from an elite Queensland school, partied at the clubhouse of a notorious bikie gang after a graduation dinner on the weekend, the Gold Coast Bulletin reports.
The 17 and 18-year-old, from St Hilda's girls' caught a bus to the Nomads' base in Carrara on the Gold Coast after the formal dinner on Saturday night.
A spokeswoman for mayor Tom Tate, confirmed his daughter Emily had attended the the party but did not know it was the base of an outlaw motorcycle gang.
"What kind of message does this send?" said police.
"Just as police move to have the gangs declared criminal organisations in a landmark legal fight that goes all the way to the High Court, one of the elite private schools has a party at one of their clubhouses. It's an absolute joke."
Cr Tate is a vocal opponent of bikie gangs' presence on the Gold Coast.
The party was said to have been organised by a bus company, hired by senior students from the school, but the location was a mystery to avoid unwanted guests gatecrashing the party.
"We didn't know where it was," one student told News Limited.
"We got on the buses after the formal and we went out to Carrara. I didn't even know it was a bikie clubhouse."
It is the third time a Gold Coast school has mixed celebrations with an outlaw motorcycle gang.
In 2007, students from Emmanuel College partied at the Rebels clubhouse, while last year the Bandidos escorted students from Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School to their formal party.
